The advent of digital platforms has redefined nearly every aspect of the museum publishing process, from products and audiences to staffing and workflow. This workshop will consider the promise and pitfalls of new publishing models and present examples groundbreaking publishing activities from museums around the globe.

Participants will discuss the ways in which the world of mobile computing, apps, and e-readers create new opportunities for museum publishers, consider the potential of the web as a platform for scholarly publishing and discourse, and look at the latest tools for multilingual and crowdsourced content creation. We will also consider both the past and future of museum publishing, reimagining the role of the traditional print publication in context of the ever-expanding digital publishing universe, and looking ahead to opportunities provided by rich multimedia, linked data, and advanced imaging processes.
