The How-to’s, Why-to’s, If-to’s, Where-to’s of Crowdfunding Museum Programs and Projects in Asia

With the crowd funding of cultural projects just beginning to emerge in Asia, this workshop will help museums decide which projects are appropriate and understand the issues involved. Participants will emerge with the basic knowledge, skills and resources to embark on a successful campaign. Topics include: choosing the right crowdfunding site; museum staff involvement; creating a "business plan;" project promotion and seeding; elements of audience engagement, transparency and rewards; museum responsibilities; and, how to deal successfully with the unexpected. Special factors in soliciting and engaging an Asian cultural audience will be addressed, but the fundamentals are applicable to prospective crowdfunding projects anywhere.
